Scraped surface heat exchangers (also known as continuous freezers, cooker barrels, or SSHE) are specialized pieces of equipment meant to cool or heat extremely viscous or sticky products. They have many different uses in the dairy, food, cosmetic, & pharmaceutical industries, and we have serviced them all.

This equipment allows product to be heated or cooled uniformly by circulating freon, ammonia, steam, or water through the outer jacket while product flows through the inner tube continuously being agitated by scraper blades and the inner shaft/dasher.

Common Failures

What we do

Pitted Freezer Barrels

Deep gouges or pits in the base material of your tube, no problem. No barrel, tube, or cylinder is too for gone. General Engineering can have your components rebuilt at half the cost of new parts.

Peeling Chrome

We can restore and rebuild any worn, flaky, or peeling chrome surfaces. First removing any old chrome. Then restoring the base material. Finally re-chroming your parts, exceeding OEM standards.

Leaking Jackets

No matter your type (water, freon, or ammonia) General Engineering can rebuild any leaking jackets. Pressure testing after every repair to ensure a leak-proof unit.

Dull Scraper Blades

Dull scraper blades will eventually cause unnecessary damage to your other components. Send them in to be re-sharpened before that happens!

Broken Mutator Shaft Pins

We will remove any broken, bent, or chipped blade pins to be replaced with newly manufactured pins. Identical to the originals.

Worn Out Dasher Ends

Old worn out dashers can be completely rebuilt. First by stubbing in new ends, and then expertly machining all new bearing areas and splines to OEM standards.
