Over the last 50 years, we at General Engineering have gained the knowledge and experience needed to provide the best scraped surface heat exchanger rebuild services to industries whose products require this specialized equipment. Scraped surface heat exchangers (also known as continuous freezers, cooker barrels, or SSHE) are specialized pieces of equipment meant to cool or heat extremely viscous or sticky products. They have many different uses in the dairy, food, cosmetic, & pharmaceutical industries, and we have serviced them all.

Our Refurbing Process

Inner Tubbing

  1. Thoroughly inspect all surface areas for damages such as pits, peeling chrome, or deep gauges
  2. Completely remove existing chrome from unit
  3. Completly rebuild base material(stainless, copper, nickel, etc.)
  4. Rechrome inner diameter completely and outer sections if needed
  5. Polish to a mirror-like finish, and inspect all surface areas once again before shipping back to the customer
 

If the inner wall of the barrel is too thin, our scraped surface heat exchanger rebuild process involves retubing the unit and replacing the inner walls with brand new tubing to OEM specifications, making your barrel as good as new.

Dashers & Mutator Shafts

  1. Complete a full inspection, checking for bad splines, broken blade pins, and worn bearing & seal areas
  2. Complete following repairs for each identified issue on unit
    • Broken Blade Pins – Machine off broken pins, manufacture brand new pin to OEM specifications, align and weld new pin with all existing pins
    • Worn Spline End – Remove old spline end, stub in new piece of material, Machine to OEM specifications and cut new splines
    • Worn Bearing & Seal Areas – Grind, plate, and grind worn bearing areas to build them up to OEM specifications
    • Worn Dasher Beaters – Sleeve and re-machine worn areas
  3. Inspect all worn bearing areas, seal areas,  spline areas, and broken pins once again before shipping back to customer
